Lessons from an Abébélubé.

'Abébélubé' was what we called them. Who can help us wipe the board?  Aunty I!  Who knows the answer to this question?  Aunty I!  Nominate a class captain  Aunty I!  Abébélubé  is a yoruba word used to describe someone who is too forward. An ITK , an oversabi.  we called them too-know-know.  They were unbearable, always in front, had answers to every question. They were enthusiastic about work and would drag us all in, Like reminding our teachers about an assignment we prayed all night to be forgotten . They were too damn forward and it frustrated the hell out of most of us. But they were the boldest people! frankly speaking they are the boldest people I have met. They didn't need any external motivation, they motivated themselves and were content being their own hype men, even when they answered wrongly or got their asses whopped, by the next class they were on their feets willing to try out something. Despite being driven mad by their oversabi.

BOOK REVIEW: CHASING FACADES BY ELIZABETH OLUSHOLA ADEOLU

The saying "never say never" resonated strongly with me while reading this book. I must admit. I definitely was a bit hesitant in reading this book majorly because I was skeptical about the content of a Nigerian crime book. Seeing that I have barely read a book in this genre written by a Nigerian or an African. Blame it on my earliest not-so-pleasant experiences of Nigerian crime movies courtesy of African magic. One time, the "detectives" stormed in shouting "FBI, freeze!" . Really? Elizabeth Olushola Adeola in her debut novel chasing facades uses suspense, intrigue and romance to address crime, rage and hunger for justice in a rather simplistic tone. Published in Nigeria in 2014 by Kachifo Limited under its Farafina breeze imprint. Chasing facades is a good read. Set in Nigeria, the 319-pages book centers around a young rising detective Tayo Dabi at the only detective agency in the country. The book takes us through the journey as det

GIVE ME ALL OR LET ME GO!

I had a conversation with a friend of mine recently. We covered a whole lot of subjects, you know, trying to fill each other in on the months lost. And as a lovaholic , i inquired about her love life and her response was: “don’t mind that boy jare, he  thinks I’m still that little girl he tutored for JAMB.” Apparently, my friend had some slight difficulty passing JAMB at first attempt, so her well-meaning parents got her this handsome corps member (at that time) to help beat some chemistry equations into her head. Whether it was his good looks or his teaching skills, I do not know, all I know is she passed jamb very well, read a pretty cool course and graduated successfully plus she is a beauty to behold and yet our dear brother hasn’t made a move yet. I tried probing further to find out what the exact problem was, after a while of what I like to term as the  lovaholic interrogation. I found out that my dear friend had been friend-zoned. Was I surprised? yes o

Starting my blog is something I always desired and I'm super excited I finally went for it, I started this blog on the 2nd of January this year and was a little scared of writing my first post, I could be a little critical of myself sometimes and my fear of "yarning dust" just wouldn't let me go for it, but today is that perfect day and am so excited to introduce my first post, I wrote this article a while ago, those close to me have probably read this. This article is a peep into how I think or rather how I thought, I had HIGH expectations, misplaced priorities and wrong ideologies and I hope to share more of  my thoughts about life, love, relationship, culture and values in subsequent posts. I would really love to read your comments and suggestions, enjoy and don't forget to tell me what you think. Cheers! I grew up reading quite a number of books, romance novels to be precise, which did a great job in shaping my expectations of lo
